ALGIERS- Speaker of People’s National Assembly (Lower House) Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa met with Chairman of Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China Zhang Dejiang, as part of his visit to China.
The two parties broached "the deep historical relations between the two countries, dating back to the recognition by China of the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic (GPRA) in 1958."
During the talks, the Chinese official welcomed the role of "the Algerian diplomacy, under the leadership of Abdelaziz Bouteflika (then Minister of Foreign Affairs), in order to enable China to regain the permanent seat in the UN Security Council," said Saturday an APN statement.
He also welcomed "the great contribution of Algeria, under the enlightened leadership of President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, in the establishment of security and stability in its geopolitical space, in addition to its effective participation in International Counter-terrorism Cooperation and the achievement of economic complementarity between States.”
Algeria "is a model of economic development, social prosperity, political stability and an important strategic partner for China," said the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China.
Algeria "possesses the assets that enable it to be a pioneering regional economic pole, thanks to the development approach initiated by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika," he said.
At the meeting, the two officials discussed "the ways and means to strengthen consultation and coordination between the two countries parliamentarians in order to really contribute to the promotion of Algerian-Chinese relations at the level expected by the presidents of the two countries."
