BRUSSELS- The minister of State, minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini welcomed Monday, in Brussels, the level of interactions between Algeria and the European Union (EU) the last two years, stressing the need to continue this effort.
“I think this honest, friendly and deep dialogue that we had today is really at the level of both parties’ expectations. This dialogue is called to continue all year,” said Lamamra in a joint press briefing with Mogherini and the European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn at the end of the 10th session of the Algeria-EU Association Council.
Lamamra said that the meetings between Algeria and the EU “should not be an annual event,” announcing, on the occasion, Federica Mogherini‘s upcoming visit to Algeria.
“The high representative said that she will pay a new visit to Algeria on 8 and 9 April,” said the Algerian Foreign Minister during the press briefing, underlining that “this spirit of working together, this spirit of joining efforts will be reflected through a lot of interactions in the upcoming weeks and the upcoming months.”
For her part, the head of the European diplomacy underlined that the Algeria-EU bilateral relations were “particularly strong” since the last Association Council held in June 2005, adding that Monday’s Council was concrete and positive and that important decisions were taken during this Council.
