ALGIERS-The National Center of Cinematography and Audiovisual Media (CNCA) and the Iranian cinema foundation "Farabi" inked Monday in Algiers a cooperation agreement on various cinematographic fields.

The agreement, whose signing ceremony was attended by Culture Minister Azzedine Mihoubi and Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Reza Salhi Amiri, provides for "strengthening coproduction" through facilitating movement and stay conditions for artists and technical staffs participating in cinematographic works, the "import and export" of equipment used in the direction of these works and their exploitation by both countries.

It also provides for "cooperation" in cinematographic training and the "extension" of cooperation and exchanges between both countries' schools of cinema, centres of production of national movies and the national museums of cinema, the promotion of festivals and cinematographic weeks, the exchange of movies and screening sessions of Algerian and Iranian feature films in both countries.

Mihoubi stressed his meeting with his Iranian counterpart "aimed to strengthen cultural ties between the two countries and raise them to higher levels," highlighting "the strong political and economic relations between Algeria and Iran" and the efforts made by his ministry to "further strengthen them through culture."

For his part, the Iranian minister, who is on a working and friendship visit to Algeria, said that Algeria and Iran had many common points, stressing that his meetings with Mihoubi "will help establish a cultural cooperation between the two countries."
