National Human Rights Council invites all citizens to go massively to polls

ALGIERS- The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) on Thursday invited all sections of the Algerian society, especially young people, to go massively to polls, calling on public authorities to ensure the success of the forthcoming local elections and show neutrality towards all candidates.

"As local elections approach, which would be an opportunity for Algerian citizens to exercise their constitutional right: the right to vote –one of the most important political rights- the CNDH, as a constitutional mechanism whose mission is the promotion and the protection of human rights, has the duty to call on all sections of the Algerian society, especially young people and women, to go massively to polls and choose freely their legitimate representatives," said the human rights body in a statement.

The CNDH called on public authorities in charge of supervising the election process to ensure the success of the 23 November polls and show strict neutrality towards all candidates.

In this regard, CNDH invited political parties and independent candidates to assume their role in accordance with the election law.

The human rights body also recalled to the High Independent Authority for Election Monitoring (HIISE) its role in ensuring free and transparent polls and encouraged it to continue its efforts to that end.
