“Borders must no longer be conflict zones,” says AU Commissioner

CONSTANTINE-The African Union (AU) Commissioner for peace and security Smail Chergui on Wednesday said that borders must no longer be zones of conflict and obstacles but rather areas for exchange, dialogue, cooperation and peace.

Speaking to the first General Assembly of the Pan-African Women's Network for Conflict Prevention and Mediation (FemWise-Africa), Chergui underlined the importance of this “decisive” assembly to strengthen the role of this network.

According to Chergui, the network aims to ensure the empowerment of women and girls through specific trainings and their participation and role in activities.
