ALGIERS- Weapons of war and ammunition cache was discovered Sunday in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Adrar (1420-km southwest of Algiers), by an Army detachment, the ministry of National Defence said Monday in a statement.   

In operations to fight terrorism and secure the border, a detachment of the People's National Army discovered yesterday, 23 April 2017, near the country's southern border in Bordj Badj Mokhtar (6th military district), a cache of arms and munitions containing a heavy machine gun of 14.5 mm calibre, a heavy machine gun of 12.7 mm, and Dictariov machine gun," according to the statement. 

The cache also included "six Kalashnikov PMAK sub-machine guns, one canon for heavy machine gun of 12.7 mm caliber, 10 Kalashnikov magazines and a large quantity of munitions (2,313 bullets)." 

In operations to secure the borders and fight smuggling and organized crime in Tlemcen (2nd military district), National Gendarmerie and Coastguard forces "seized a large quantity of cannabis (three quintals and 94.5 kg)."

In addition, Army detachments and National Gendarmerie units "intercepted in Tlemcen, Tiaret and Bordj Badji Mokhtar, 16 illegal immigrants of different nationalities," the statement concluded.

ALGIERS- Lieutenant-General, Deputy Minister of National Defence, Chief of Staff of the People's National Army Ahmed Gaid Salah, who is on a visit to Ouargla (4th military district), said Friday the legislative elections of May 4 represent a vital national event to Algeria and the Algerians, the ministry of National Defence said in a statement.

Measures have been taken for the elections to go smoothly, the Lieutenant General said, including Army personnel's "fulfilment of their national duty outside barracks, alongside their fellow citizens, in line with the laws of the Republic," the ministry of National Defence said in a statement.

After he supervised a shooting training session at the North-East operational sector Command in In Amenas, the lieutenant general, accompanied by Major General Cherif Abderezzak, commander of the fourth military command, met the executives and personnel of the sector.

He also met with the representatives of the different security bodies, Civil Protection, and the Customs.

The deputy minister of National Defence made an address, including guidelines for Army personnel, stressing the huge efforts made by the people's National army.

Terrorist eliminated in Jijel identified

ALGIERS- The terrorist eliminated in an operation carried out Sunday by a detachment of the People’s National Army in the province of Jijel was identified said Tuesday, the ministry of National Defence in a communiqué.

“As part of the fight against terrorism, the terrorist eliminated during the quality operation carried out by a detachment of the People’s National Army was identified, on 16 April 2017 in Oued Essafsaf, province of Jijel (5th military region). The terrorist is "B. Ahmed" allias "Abou Ahmed," said the source.

In the same regard, and during search and combing operations, army detachments “destroyed in Jijel, Skikda and Tebessa (5th military region), three (03) terrorist shelters containing eight (08) handmade mines, a quantity of ammunition, explosives and foodstuffs.”

Furthermore, and as part of the fight against smuggling and organized crime, detachments of the People’s National Army “seized in Tamanrasset, Ain Guezzam and Bordj Badji Mokhtar (6th military region), five (05) trucks loaded with 31 foodstuffs, 30,200 litres of fuel and various gold washing tools while other detachments and units of the national gendarmerie intercepted 18 illegal immigrants from various nationalities in Tlemcen and Tamanrasset,” said the communiqué.

Terrorist eliminated in Jijel Sunday

ALGIERS- Army detachment killed Sunday a terrorist in an ambush in Oued Essafsaf in Jijel, recovering his Kalashnikov submachine gun, the ministry of National Defense said Monday in a statement.

"As part of its counterterrorism operations and in an ambush in Oued Essafsaf, in the commune of Boudriaa Ben Yadjis, province of Jijel (5th military district), a detachment of the People's National Army eliminated a terrorist yesterday, 16 April 2017, and recovered Kalashnikov submachine gun."

In addition, Army detachments discovered "two terrorist bunkers, a workshop for explosive manufacturing, a homemade bomb and a quantity of ammunition" in Skikda (5th military district) and Blida (1st military district).

ALGIERS- The body of a terrorist called F. Khodja alias Abbas was found Saturday in Skikda (510-km east of Algiers) by an Army detachment, while other Army units destroyed five bunkers and six homemade mines, the ministry of National Defence said Sunday in a statement.

In a counterterrorism operation, a detachment of the People's National Army discovered on 15 April 2017, in Skikda (5th military district), the body of a terrorist named F. Khodja alias Abbes," the statement said.

Another detachment "destroyed, in the same military district, five bunkers and six homemade mines."

In operations to secure the borders and fight organized crime, an Army detachment and National Gendarmerie units "seized in Tlemcen (2nd military district) a lorry carrying 500 kilogrammes of cannabis."

ALGIERS- Five bombs and four hand-made  cannons were discovered and destroyed Thursday, in Skikda, by detachments of the People’s National Army said Friday, the ministry of National Defence in a communiqué.

“As part of the fight against terrorism and in search operations, detachments of the People’s National Army discovered and destroyed on 13 April 2017, in Skikda (5th military region), five (05) bombs and four (04) homemade cannons,” said the source.

Furthermore, and as part of the fight against smuggling and organized crime, detachments of the People’s National Army and units of the border guards, in coordination with the Customs services arrested, in Tamanrasset, Ain Guezzam and Bordj Badji Mokhtar (6th military region) 48 smugglers and seized two (02) all-terrain vehicles,” two (02) metal detectors, six (06) jackhammers, six (06) generators and detonation tools.”

Another Army detachment arrested “19 illegal immigrants from various African nationalities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, while another detachment seized 7068 units of various drinks in Ouargla (4th military region).”

Also, in Souk-Ahras, Tebessa and El-Kala (5th military region), units of the border guards “thwarted attempts at smuggling 12260 litres of fuels.”

ALGIERS- A detachment of the People’s National Army eliminated, Friday, at the level of the Algerian-Mauritanian border strip, in the South of Tindouf, three (03) drug traffickers and destroyed one (01) all-terrain vehicle, said the ministry of national defence in a communiqué.

“As part of the efforts to secure borders and the fight against organized crime, a detachment of the People’s National Army, support by two helicopters eliminated, on 14 April 2017, at the level of the Algerian-Mauritanian border strip (operational sector of Southern Tindouf, 3rd military region), three (03) drug traffickers and destroyed one (01) all-terrain vehicle,” said the communiqué.

This operation allowed recovering “two (02) FM-type machine guns, one (01) RPG-7 rocket launcher, one Kalashnikov (PMAK) machine pistol, one (01) automatic pistol, one (01) pair of binoculars, one (01) satellite phone and a large quantity of munitions,” said the source.

“This quality operation in which our units once again faced heavily armed drug trafficking criminals is the result of the permanent vigilance, and the entire disposal of the Army forces, mobilized along the borders,” added the ministry of National Defense’s communiqué.

ALGIERS- Seven homemade mines were destroyed Thursday in Tebessa by an Army detachment, the ministry of National Defence said Friday in a statement.

"A detachment of the People's National Army, as part of the fight against terrorism, has destroyed seven homemade mines on 6 April 2017 in Tebessa (5th military district)," the statement said.

In addition, and "in operations against smuggling, an Army detachment and National Gendarmerie forces arrested, in Bel Abbes (2nd military district) and Bechar (3rd military district), three drug traffickers and seized 18.7 kilogrammes of cannabis."

Another Army detachment arrested four people in Ghardaia (4th military district) carrying 25,618 psychotropic tablets." 

"In Tamanrasset and Bordj Badji Mokhtar (6th military district), Army detachments, in coordination with Customs officers, arrested thirty smugglers and seized seven power generating sets, four metal detectors and five pneumatic drills."

Four terrorist supporters arrested in Jijel

ALGIERS- Four members of a terrorist supporting group were arrested Tuesday in Jijel by an Army detachment, the ministry of National Defence said Wednesday in a statement.

"In a counterterrorism operation, a detachment of the People's National Army arrested on 4 April 2017 four members of a terrorist supporting group in Jijel (5th military district)," the statement said.

Besides, in operations against smuggling and organized crime, an Army detachment "seized 9.5 kilogrammes of cannabis in Tiaret (2nd military district)."

The Army detachments also "arrested, in Tamanrasset and In-Guezzam (6th military district), 24 smugglers and seized six trucks, an all-terrain vehicle, 91.7 tonnes of foodstuff and 7,600 litres of cooking oil."

ALGIERS- An arms cache containing a large quantity of munitions of different calibres and six cartridge clips for Kalashnikov submachine guns were found by an Army detachment Monday in In-Guezzam,  the ministry of National Defence said Tuesday. 

"In counterterrorism operations and reconnaissance patrols in In-Guezzam (6th military district), a detachment of the People's National Army discovered yesterday, 3 April 2017, a cache containing a large quantity of ammunition (1,981 bullets) of different calibres and six magazines for Kalashnikov submachine guns," the statement said.

Army detachments "destroyed in Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou (1st military district), Tebessa, Batna and Bejaia (5th military district) fourteen terrorist bunkers, three mines and four homemade bombs."

In Tebessa, the National Gendarmerie "has arrested two members of a terrorist supporting group."

ALGIERS- Deputy Minister of National Defence and Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaid Salah received Thursday, in Algiers, Qatar's Minister of State for Defence Khalid Bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah, who is on a two-day official visit in Algeria, leading a military delegation.

The two sides held discussions at the National Defence ministry's headquarters, in the presence of senior officials of the ministry of National Defence and the Staff headquarters, in addition to Qatar's ambassador to Algeria and the members of the delegation accompanying the Qatari minister.

The discussions, according to a ministry's statement, focused on "the bilateral military cooperation and the ways and methods to boost it in areas of common interest," the statement said.

Cooperation between Algeria and Qatar "has been strengthening with the permanent and increasing interest of the leaders of the two countries and their common concern to promote and develop it."

The two sides also exchanged "analyses and views on various topical issues."

ALGIERS- Two drug traffickers aboard two cars carrying 95.6 kilogrammes of cannabis were arrested Monday in Tlemcen and Sidi Bel Abbes by National Gendarmerie units, the ministry of National Defence said Tuesday in a statement.

"In operations against smuggling and organized crime, National gendarmerie units arrested, on 27 March 2017, in Tlemcen and Sidi Bel Abbes (2nd military district), two drug traffickers aboard two private cars loaded with 95.6  kilogrammes of cannabis, while 5700 psychotropic tablets were seized in Oran." 

In addition, "detachments of the People's National Army and National Gendarmerie units seized, in separate operations in El-Oued and Biskra (4th military district) and Oum El-Bouaghi (5th military district), four commercial vehicles, 42.5 quintals of tobacco and 17.624 units of drinks," the source said.

"Army detachments arrested in Tindouf (3rd military district) and In  Guezzam (6th military district) 10 smugglers and seized 8 all-terrain vehicles, 5.5  tonnes of foodstuffs, 1300 litres of fuel, 4080 units of detergents, nine electric generating sets and four pneumatic drills."

ALGIERS- Six drug traffickers were apprehended and 24.5 kg of cannabis resin, as well as 142,000 psychotropic tablets were seized by units of the national gendarmerie and the border guards Saturday, in Tlemcen and Oran said Sunday, the ministry of national defence in a communiqué.

“As part of strengthening border security and the fight against organized crime, units of the national gendarmerie and the border guards apprehended, on 25 march 2017, in Tlemcen and Oran (2nd military region), six (6) drug traffickers and seized 24.5 kilograms of cannabis resin, six (6) vehicles and 142,000 psychotropic tablets, whereas a truck loaded with 24.5 quintals of tobacco was seized in Biskra (4th military region),” said the communiqué.

In Bordj Baji Mokhtar and Ain Guezzam (6th military region), detachments of the People’s National Army “seized five 05 trucks, three (3) all-terrain vehicles, 30.5 tons of foodstuffs, 15,000 litres of cooking oil, 49,920 units of detergent products and two (2) metal detectors,” said the source.

Furthermore, detachments of the Army and units of the national gendarmerie “intercepted, in Illizi (4th military region) and El Tarf (5th military region), sixteen illegal immigrants from various nationalities,” concluded the communiqué.

Army discovers arms cache in Tizi Ouzou

ALGIERS- A combined detachment of the People’s National Army discovered Friday, in Tizi Ouzou, an arms cache containing arms and foodstuffs, as well a large quantity of medicines, said the ministry of National Defence in a communiqué.

“As part of the fight against terrorism, and following a search operation conducted in the area of Ait Meslayen, in Tizi Ouzou (1st military region), a combined detachment of the People’s National Army discovered yesterday, 24 March 2017, an arms cache containing one (01) PMAK Kalashnikov-type submachine gun, two handmade grenades, one loader for FMPK-type heavy machine, foodstuffs and a large quantity of medicines,” said the source.

Furthermore, and as part of the fight against smuggling and organized crime, detachments of the People’s National Army intercepted in “Tamanrasset and Ain Guezzam (6th military region), five (05) smugglers and seized 2 all-terrain vehicles, 4 metal detectors, 2 jackhammers, 2 generators and a satellite phone,” added the ministry’s communiqué.

ALGIERS- Two drug traffickers were intercepted and 250 kilograms of cannabis resin were seized Wednesday, by a detachment of the People’s National Army and units of the National Gendarmerie in Tlemcen said Thursday, the ministry of National Defence in a communiqué.

“As part of the fight against smuggling and organized crime, a detachment of the People’s National Army and units of the national gendarmerie, in coordination with the Customs units intercepted, on 22 March 2017 in Tlemcen (2nd military region), two (02) drug traffickers and seized 250 kilograms of cannabis resin,” said the source.

In Tamanrasset and Ain Guezzam (6th military region), detachments of the People’s National Army “arrested eight (08) smugglers and seized one truck, 2 all-terrain vehicles, 3,600 litres of fuel, 24 jackhammers and 27 generators,” while “40 quintals of tobacco were seized in Al Oued (4th military region).”

On the other hand, units of the border guards “thwarted, in Oran and Ain Temouchent (2nd military region), attempts at illegal immigration of 28 people aboard hand-made crafts,” while units of the National Gendarmerie and the Border Guards “arrested, in Tlemcen (2nd military region), Ouargla, and Ghardaia (4th military region), 32 illegal immigrants from various nationalities.”

ALGIERS- Four terrorist bunkers were destroyed Sunday by an Army detachment while seven members of terrorist supporting groups were arrested in Boumerdes and Sid Bel Abbes, the ministry of National Defence said in a statement. 

In a counterterrorism operation "a detachment of the People's National Army destroyed four terrorist bunkers in Bejaia (5th military district) on 19 March 2017, while other detachments and National Gendarmerie units, in coordination with national police, arrested seven members of terrorist supporting groups in Boumerdes  (1st military district) and Sidi Bel Abbes (2nd military district)," the statement said.

As part of their fight against smuggling and organized crime, National Gendarmerie units "intercepted in Sidi Bel Abbes (2nd military district) two drug traffickers and seized 7.7 kilogrammes of cannabis."

Another Army detachment "seized two lorries loaded with 45 quintals of tobacco in Biskra (4th military district)."

In Tamanrasset and Bordj Badji Mokhtar (6th military district), Army units "arrested nine smugglers and seized a lorry, nine all-terrain vehicles, 16.7 tonnes of foodstuffs, 12,450 litres of fuel and 3,000 litres of cooking oil."

ALGIERS- Fifteen (15) terrorist bunkers were destroyed Saturday, in Ain Defla, by a detachment of the People’s National Army while an individual supporting terrorist groups was apprehended in Khenchela said Sunday, the ministry of National Defence in a communiqué.

“As part of the fight against terrorism, a detachment of the People’s National army destroyed, on 18 March 2017, in Ain Defla (1st military region), 15 bunkers for terrorists containing foodstuffs and four (04) binoculars,  while units of the National Gendarmerie apprehended one individual supporting terrorist groups in Khenchela (5th military region),” said the communiqué.

Furthermore, and as part of the fight against organized crime, units of the National Gendarmerie and the border guards seized in Tlemcen (2nd military region), a quantity of cannabis resin amounting to 100 kilograms and 2,800 litres of fuel, while a detachment of the People’s National Army seized a truck loaded with nine (09) tons of foodstuffs in Ain Guezzam.”

On the other hand, units of the border guards “thwarted, in Annaba (5th military region), attempts at illegal immigration of 41 people aboard a hand-made craft, while 12 illegal immigrants from various nationalities were apprehended in Ain Temouchent ,  Adrar and Ain Guezzam,” added the communiqué.

ALGIERS- Five terrorist bunkers were destroyed and three members of terrorist supporting groups arrested on Friday by Army detachments and National Gendarmerie units, the ministry of National Defence said Saturday in a statement.

In counterterrorism operations, "detachments of the People's National Army destroyed five terrorist bunkers on 17 March 2017 in Ain Defla, Tizi Ouzou (1st military district) and Bordj Bouariridj (5th military district)."

In addition, "National Gendarmerie units arrested three members of terrorist supporting group in Oran and Sidi Belabes (2nd military district)," the statement added.

 

In the fight against smuggling and organized crime, National Gendarmerie and border guard units arrested three drug traffickers and seized a quantity of cannabis, amounting to 103.25 kilogrammes, in Sidi Belabes and Tlemcen (2nd military district).

Two terrorists killed in Jijel

ALGIERS- Two terrorists have been killed and two Kalashnikov submachine guns have been recovered by an Army detachment, Thursday, in an operation conducted in El Milia, province of Jijel (359-km east of Algiers), the ministry of National Defence said in a statement.

In a counterterrorism operation "a detachment of the People's National Army, from the operational section of Jijel (5th military district), has killed two terrorists on 16 March 2017," the statement said. 

The Army detachment has recovered "two Kalashnikov submachine guns, three loaded magazines, a handmade grenade and a pair of binoculars, in a quality operation in El Ghedir, commune of El Milia," according to the statement.

"The operation is still underway."

ALGIERS- Six bunkers, two handmade cannons and six bombs have been destroyed Tuesday in Bouira, Boumerdes, Bordj Bou Arreridj and Skikda by an Army detachment, the ministry of National Defence said Wednesday in a statement. 

"In counterterrorism operations, a People's National Army detachment has destroyed on 14 March 2017 in Bouira, Boumerdes (1st military district), Bordj Bou Arreridj and Skikda (5th military district) six bunkers used by terrorists, two handmade cannons and six bombs," the ministry of National Defence said.

In addition, and in operations to fight smuggling and organized crime, Army detachments, in coordination with the Algerian customs, "arrested six drug traffickers and seized a large quantity of cannabis amounting to 549.85 kilogrammes in Oran and Tlemcen (2nd military district)."

Another Army detachment "arrested four drug traffickers in Bechar (3rd military district) and seized a quantity of cannabis (500 kilogrammes)."
