ALGIERS- Two drug traffickers were intercepted and 250 kilograms of cannabis resin were seized Wednesday, by a detachment of the People’s National Army and units of the National Gendarmerie in Tlemcen said Thursday, the ministry of National Defence in a communiqué.

“As part of the fight against smuggling and organized crime, a detachment of the People’s National Army and units of the national gendarmerie, in coordination with the Customs units intercepted, on 22 March 2017 in Tlemcen (2nd military region), two (02) drug traffickers and seized 250 kilograms of cannabis resin,” said the source.

In Tamanrasset and Ain Guezzam (6th military region), detachments of the People’s National Army “arrested eight (08) smugglers and seized one truck, 2 all-terrain vehicles, 3,600 litres of fuel, 24 jackhammers and 27 generators,” while “40 quintals of tobacco were seized in Al Oued (4th military region).”

On the other hand, units of the border guards “thwarted, in Oran and Ain Temouchent (2nd military region), attempts at illegal immigration of 28 people aboard hand-made crafts,” while units of the National Gendarmerie and the Border Guards “arrested, in Tlemcen (2nd military region), Ouargla, and Ghardaia (4th military region), 32 illegal immigrants from various nationalities.”

ALGIERS- Four terrorist bunkers were destroyed Sunday by an Army detachment while seven members of terrorist supporting groups were arrested in Boumerdes and Sid Bel Abbes, the ministry of National Defence said in a statement. 

In a counterterrorism operation "a detachment of the People's National Army destroyed four terrorist bunkers in Bejaia (5th military district) on 19 March 2017, while other detachments and National Gendarmerie units, in coordination with national police, arrested seven members of terrorist supporting groups in Boumerdes  (1st military district) and Sidi Bel Abbes (2nd military district)," the statement said.

As part of their fight against smuggling and organized crime, National Gendarmerie units "intercepted in Sidi Bel Abbes (2nd military district) two drug traffickers and seized 7.7 kilogrammes of cannabis."

Another Army detachment "seized two lorries loaded with 45 quintals of tobacco in Biskra (4th military district)."

In Tamanrasset and Bordj Badji Mokhtar (6th military district), Army units "arrested nine smugglers and seized a lorry, nine all-terrain vehicles, 16.7 tonnes of foodstuffs, 12,450 litres of fuel and 3,000 litres of cooking oil."

ALGIERS- Fifteen (15) terrorist bunkers were destroyed Saturday, in Ain Defla, by a detachment of the People’s National Army while an individual supporting terrorist groups was apprehended in Khenchela said Sunday, the ministry of National Defence in a communiqué.

“As part of the fight against terrorism, a detachment of the People’s National army destroyed, on 18 March 2017, in Ain Defla (1st military region), 15 bunkers for terrorists containing foodstuffs and four (04) binoculars,  while units of the National Gendarmerie apprehended one individual supporting terrorist groups in Khenchela (5th military region),” said the communiqué.

Furthermore, and as part of the fight against organized crime, units of the National Gendarmerie and the border guards seized in Tlemcen (2nd military region), a quantity of cannabis resin amounting to 100 kilograms and 2,800 litres of fuel, while a detachment of the People’s National Army seized a truck loaded with nine (09) tons of foodstuffs in Ain Guezzam.”

On the other hand, units of the border guards “thwarted, in Annaba (5th military region), attempts at illegal immigration of 41 people aboard a hand-made craft, while 12 illegal immigrants from various nationalities were apprehended in Ain Temouchent ,  Adrar and Ain Guezzam,” added the communiqué.

ALGIERS- Five terrorist bunkers were destroyed and three members of terrorist supporting groups arrested on Friday by Army detachments and National Gendarmerie units, the ministry of National Defence said Saturday in a statement.

In counterterrorism operations, "detachments of the People's National Army destroyed five terrorist bunkers on 17 March 2017 in Ain Defla, Tizi Ouzou (1st military district) and Bordj Bouariridj (5th military district)."

In addition, "National Gendarmerie units arrested three members of terrorist supporting group in Oran and Sidi Belabes (2nd military district)," the statement added.

 

In the fight against smuggling and organized crime, National Gendarmerie and border guard units arrested three drug traffickers and seized a quantity of cannabis, amounting to 103.25 kilogrammes, in Sidi Belabes and Tlemcen (2nd military district).

Two terrorists killed in Jijel

ALGIERS- Two terrorists have been killed and two Kalashnikov submachine guns have been recovered by an Army detachment, Thursday, in an operation conducted in El Milia, province of Jijel (359-km east of Algiers), the ministry of National Defence said in a statement.

In a counterterrorism operation "a detachment of the People's National Army, from the operational section of Jijel (5th military district), has killed two terrorists on 16 March 2017," the statement said. 

The Army detachment has recovered "two Kalashnikov submachine guns, three loaded magazines, a handmade grenade and a pair of binoculars, in a quality operation in El Ghedir, commune of El Milia," according to the statement.

"The operation is still underway."

ALGIERS- Six bunkers, two handmade cannons and six bombs have been destroyed Tuesday in Bouira, Boumerdes, Bordj Bou Arreridj and Skikda by an Army detachment, the ministry of National Defence said Wednesday in a statement. 

"In counterterrorism operations, a People's National Army detachment has destroyed on 14 March 2017 in Bouira, Boumerdes (1st military district), Bordj Bou Arreridj and Skikda (5th military district) six bunkers used by terrorists, two handmade cannons and six bombs," the ministry of National Defence said.

In addition, and in operations to fight smuggling and organized crime, Army detachments, in coordination with the Algerian customs, "arrested six drug traffickers and seized a large quantity of cannabis amounting to 549.85 kilogrammes in Oran and Tlemcen (2nd military district)."

Another Army detachment "arrested four drug traffickers in Bechar (3rd military district) and seized a quantity of cannabis (500 kilogrammes)."

ALGIERS- Deputy Minister of National Defence, Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaid Salah received Sunday, in Algiers, Lieutenant General Sheng Liu, the deputy head of China's PLA (People's Liberation Army) General Logistics Department, the ministry of National Defence said in a statement.

The audience granted to Lieutenant General Sheng Liu, at his request, was an opportunity for the two sides to express their "willingness to step up bilateral cooperation in the light of the traditional relations between the two countries," the statement noted.

The top Chinese official is on a visit to Algeria from 12 to 15 March, as part of bilateral cooperation between the People's National Army and China's People's Liberation Army.

Lieutenant General Sheng Liu will meet the commanders of the different Algerian forces and the chiefs of cooperation departments at the ministry of National Defence.

ALGIERS- Thirteen (13) smugglers were arrested Saturday in the South of the country by detachments of the People’s National Army  who seized vehicles, foodstuffs and other objects said Sunday, the ministry of national Defence in a communiqué.

“As part of the fight against smuggling and organized crime, Army detachments arrested on 11 March 2017 in El Oued (4th military region), Bordj Badji Mokhtar and Ain Guezzam (6th military region) thirteen (13) smugglers and seized three all-terrain vehicles, one (01) truck, 5.5 quintals of foodstuffs, 23 power generators, 24 jackhammers and 6129 units of various drinks,” said the source.

Furthermore, and as part of the fight against illegal immigration, detachments of the People’s National Army, units of the National Gendarmerie and the border guards “intercepted in various operations conducted in Tlemcen (2nd military region), Constantine (5th military region) and Bordj Badji Mokhtar (6th military region), 28 illegal immigrants from various African nationalities.”

In the same regard, units of the border guards “thwarted, in Mostaganem (2nd military region), an attempt at illegal immigration of 4 people aboard a home-made craft,” underlined the ministry.

ALGIERS- Two (02) terrorists were killed and two (02) individuals supporting terrorist groups were arrested following an operation conducted in downtown Bordj Bou Arreridj, said the ministry of National Defence in a communiqué.

“As part of the fight against terrorism and thanks to the efficient use of information, a detachment of the People’s National Army coming under the operational sector of Bordj Bou Arreridj (5th military region) killed two terrorists and arrested two individuals supporting terrorist groups on 11 march 2017, following a quality operation conducted in downtown Bordj Bou Arreridj,” said the statement.

The criminals are "Y. Boubeker," who joined terrorist groups in 2009 and "K. Abdessalem," who joined terrorist groups in 2010, noted the source.

“This quality operation allowed recovering two Kalashnikov-type submachine guns, an automatic gun, three pairs of binoculars and five loaded magazines,” said the ministry’s statement.

ALGIERS- A quantity of 150 litres of nitric acid, a hazardous substance used in the manufacturing of explosives  was discovered Tuesday by detachment of the People’s National Army near Azazga (Tizi Ouzou) said Wednesday, the ministry of National Defence in a communiqué.

“As part of the fight against terrorism, a detachment of the People’s National Army discovered yesterday 7 March 2017, near Azazga, in the province of Tizi Ouzou (1st military region), five (05) plastic barrels full of 150 litres of nitric acid, a hazardous substance used in the manufacturing of explosives,” said the ministry.

“This operation adds to that conducted by Army detachments that enabled the discovery of a large quantity of chemical products used in the manufacturing of explosives, and thus, at the level of Chabet El-Ameur, between the provinces of Boumerdes and Tizi Ouzou (1st military region),” added the source.

In the same regard, and thanks to the “efficient” use of information, detachments of the People’s National Army and units of the National Gendarmerie intercepted “five (05) individuals supporting terrorist groups in Bordj Omar Idris (4th military region) and Tizi Ouzou (1st military region), and destroyed two (02) shelters for terrorists in Boumerdes (1st military region) and Batna (5th military region),” added the statement.

As part of the fight against smuggling and organized crime, detachments of the People’s National Army and units of the National Gendarmerie “arrested in Bordj Badji Mokhtar and Tamanrasset (6th military region) 15 smugglers, 5 illegal immigrants from various African nationalities and seized two trucks, an all-terrain vehicle, 3,600 litres of fuel and 5 metal detectors,” concluded the ministry.

ALGIERS- Vice-minister of National Defence, Lt General Ahmed Gaïd Salah, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), on Tuesday hailed the Algerian women’s contribution to the Army  development and modernization.

In a message of congratulations sent the Army female civilian and military staff on the occasion of the International Women’s Day on 8 March, Lt General Gaïd Salah hailed the Algerian women’s role in the fight against colonialism and later in the modernization of the Army.

Women "today contribute to the Army’s development and modernization process and make significant efforts in the various sectors ; the Army, the Gendarmerie, the Republican Guard, the Military Health, Logistics, the Management of the human resources and other sectors," said the  Chief of Staff of the Army.

"The efforts and the sacrifices made by women were rewarded since schools of the Nation Cadets now receive female students."

Recalling women’s role in the struggle against French colonialism, Gaïd Salah wished that the celebration of International Women's Day "would encourage them to make greater efforts and to persevere following the example of their elders within the Army."

Four terrorists identified in Boumerdes

ALGIERS- Two terrorists eliminated and two others captured in a military operation conducted recently by the People's National Army forces in the town of Dellys, province of Boumerdes, have been identified, the ministry of National Defence said Tuesday in a statement.

The four terrorists are "L. Sid Ali alias Youcef Abou Abdessamed joined the terrorist groups in 2001, K. Karim alias Kaakaa become a terrorist group member in 2008, R. Abdeslam alias Abdelkader joined terrorist groups in 2011 and T. Mustapha," the source added.

Two terrorists were killed and two others captured on 6 March 2017, in a counterterrorism operation conducted by the People's National Army, in Dellys, province of Boumerdes (1st military district), recovering four firearms and a quantity of munitions, according to the ministry of Defence's statement.

 

The operation is "part of a series of achievements made by our forces and shows their strong will to eliminate the remnant terrorists in our country," the statement said.

ALGIERS- Two (02) shelters for terrorists containing detonation tools were destroyed Friday in Setif by a detachment of the People’s National Army, while an individual supporting terrorist groups were arrested in Boumerdes, said Saturday National Defence Ministry in a communiqué.

“As part of the fight against terrorism, a detachment of the People’s National Army discovered and destroyed, on 3 March 2017, in the north of Setif (5th Military Region) two shelters for terrorists containing detonation tools, medicines and other objects while another detachment arrested, in coordination with the National Police services, one (01) individual supporting terrorist groups in Boumerdes (1st Military Region),” said the source.

As part of the fight against smuggling and organized crime, the units of the National Gendarmerie and border guards “arrested in Tlemcen (2nd Military Region) one Moroccan drug trafficker and seized two (02) quintals and 8 kilograms of cannabis resin.”

A detachment of the People’s National Army, in coordination with the units of the Algerian Customs, “arrested eight (08) drug traffickers in three (03) tourist vehicles and seized 1.4 kilograms of cocaine in Ain Temouchent (2nd Military Region).”

ALGIERS- Five caches for terrorists containing explosives and munitions were destroyed Monday in Tebessa, Skikda, Boumerdes and Bouira by the People’s National Army, said Tuesday a communiqué of the National Defence Ministry.

“As part of the fight against terrorism, a detachment of the People’s National Army destroyed, on 20 February 2017, five (05) caches for terrorists in Tebessa, Skikda (5th Military Region), Boumerdes and Bouira (1st Military Region), containing two (02) explosive belts, shells, explosives, 100kg of black powder, two (02) pairs of binoculars, a quantity of munitions, foodstuffs and medicines,” said the communiqué.

As part of the fight against smuggling and organized crime, a detachment of the People’s Nationla Army “seized in a search operation in Bir Dher, the province of El Oued (4th Military Region), a total of 460 mobile phones, while six (06) metal detectors, four (04) generating sets and five (05) pneumatic drills were seized in Tamanrasset and Ghardaia,” added the source.

Detachments of the People’s National Army and units of the National Gendarmerie “ arrested (49) illegal immigrants, including two (02) Syrians, in Adrar, Bechar, Tlemcen, Illizi and Laghouat,” added the source.

ALGIERS- Six arms bunkers, two shells and homemade canon were destroyed Saturday by Army detachments respectively in Bouira and Boumerdes, the ministry of National Defence said Sunday in a statement.

"As party of counterterrorism campaigns, detachments of the People's National Army destroyed on 18 February 2017, six terrorist bunkers in Bouira (125-km southeast of Algiers), in addition to two shells and a homemade canon in Boumerdes (1st military district)," the ministry said.

In the fight against smuggling and organized crime, an Army detachment and National Gendarmerie officers "arrested in Oran (2nd military district) eight drug traffickers and seized one kilogramme of cocaine, while three smugglers were arrested aboard two lorries carrying 8,535 units of different drinks, in El-Oued and Ouargla (4th military district)."

Detachments of combined Army forces "intercepted eight smugglers in Tamanrasset and In-Guezzam (6th military district) and seized a lorry, six vehicles and six metal detectors, while 53 illegal immigrants of different African nationalities have been arrested in Tamanrasset, Tlemcen, Bechar and Adrar".

In addition, coastguard units in Annaba (5th military district) "thwarted illegal migration attempts by 36 people aboard a makeshift boat," the statement concluded.

ALGIERS- Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaid Salah, deputy minister of National Defence and chief of the Army Staff, chaired Wednesday, at the National Preparatory School for Engineering in Rouiba (1st military district), a meeting with the training executives at the People's National Army. 

The meeting was attended by the head of Army Staff's Employment and Preparation Department, the chiefs of Forces' Commands, the commanders of military training facilities and trainers.

In an, opening address, broadcast via videoconference in all military training establishments, in the presence of students of the military polytechnic school, national preparatory school for engineering and the school of the nation's cadets of Blida, the lieutenant general stressed the importance of the annual assessment meeting.

He underlined the modern teaching resources provided and the highly-skilled training, supervising and managing elite working in the field, the ministry noted in the statement.

Gaid Salah shed light on the training provided by the Army "to the children of the Algerian people, backed by the special support of President of the Republic, the higher commander of the Armed Forces, minister of National Defence, to the People's National Army and its training section."

ALGIERS- A cache containing arms and an important quantity of munitions were discovered Sunday morning by a detachment of the People’s National Army, in a patrol carried out near the borders in In Guezzam, said a communiqué of the National Defence Ministry.

“As part of the fight against terrorism and securing borders, a detachment of the People’s National Army discovered, in the morning of 12 February 2017, in a patrol carried out near the borders in In Guezzam (6th Military Region), a cache of arms and munitions,” said the source.

The units of The People’s National Army discovered “one (01) RPG-2 rocket launcher, one (01) Diktariov heavy machine gun, nine (09) Kalashnikov submachine guns, one (01) repeating rifle, seven (07) magazines for Kalashnikov submachine guns, as well as an important quantity of munitions of different calibres amounting to 2,573 bullets and 30 rockets.”

“This new operation, the second of its kind which was carried out in 24 hours at the country’s southern borders, shows the great vigilance and strong commitment of the units of the People’s National Army to secure our borders and foil any attempt to undermine the integrity and security of the national territory,” added the source.

ALGIERS- Detachments of the People’s National Army arrested Thursday five individuals supporting terrorist groups in Boumerdes and Setif, as part of the fight against terrorism, said Friday a communiqué of the National Defence Ministry.

“As part of the fight against terrorism, detachments of the People’s National Army arrested, on 26 January 2017, five (05) individuals supporting terrorist groups in Boumerdes (1st Military Region) and Setif (5th Military Region),” said the source.

As part of securing borders and fight against organized crime, detachments of the People’s National Army, units of the border guards and coast guards, in coordination with the services of Customs, “seized in El Bayad, Tlemcen, Ain Temouchent (2nd Military Region) and Tindouf (3rd Military Region) “seven (07) quintals and 28 kilograms of cannabis resin, while other detachments seized in El-Oued (4th Military Region) and Oran (2nd Military Region) nine (09) quintals of tobacco and 9011 psychotropic tablets.”

Detachments of the People’s National Army arrested in Tlemcen, El Oued, Tamanrasset and Bordj Badji Mokhtar “13 smugglers and seized seven (07) all-terrain vehicles, two (02) trucks, a motorbike, 13 tonnes of foodstuffs, 7700 litres of fuel, 16 metal detectors, two (02) generating sets, two (02) pneumatic drills, a photovoltaic plate and a satellite phone.”

In Souk Ahras, Tébessa and El-Taref (5th Military Region), units of the Border Guard spoiled "attempts of smuggling of 12,040 litres of fuel.” "38 clandestine immigrants of African nationalities were apprehended in Ghardaïa, Adrar and Béchar," the communiqué concluded.

ALGIERS – The People’s National Army has destroyed 8,854, 849 mines dating from the colonial era along the eastern and western borders of the country, said Wednesday in Algiers an official of the National Defence Ministry, which announced the end of mine clearance operations.

"The completion of the mine clearance operation crowns over 50 years of constant work on the ground, for the final eradication of mines in our country," said General Boualem Madi, Army director for Communication, Information and Orientation in a statement on behalf of the Lieutenant General, Vice-minister of the National Defence and Chief of Staff of the Army.

Madi, who was hosting a news conference held at the Central Museum of the Army, said that the mine clearance operation is of paramount importance for its humanitarian and development aspects.

Following the end of the mine destruction operation, "62,421.194 ha of cleared lands were handed over to the local authorities so they can exploit them for the local development, notably in the border areas," he added.

"Those operations by the Land Forces Command’s Combat Engineer detachments have been accomplished in extremely difficult conditions, notably weather conditions, remote and hard-to-reach regions, dense forests and disappeared marks of the mines,” he explained.

The "Army’s huge efforts for the destruction of the mines illustrated Algeria’s compliance with its international commitment towards Ottawa Convention’s Article 5, on the ban of the use, storage,  production and transportation of anti-personnel mines,” General Boualem Madi said.

ALGIERS- The dangerous terrorist eliminated Friday by a detachment of the People’s National Army, near the locality of El Hadria in El Milia (Jijel, 359-km east of Algiers) has been identified, said Tuesday a communiqué of the National Defence Ministry.

“As part of the fight against terrorism, the dangerous terrorist eliminated in the operation carried out by a detachment of the People’s National Army near the locality of El Hadria in El Milia, province of Jijel (5th Military Region), on 20 January 2017, has been identified as T. Djamel alias “Abou Chouraih, who joined the terrorist groups in 1996,” said the source.

“Detachments of the People’s National Army destroyed on 23 January 2017 in Tizi Ouzou (1st Military Region), two bunkers for terrorists, an explosive manufacturing workshop, two (02) bombs and home-made canon and denotation equipment,” according to the communiqué, adding that the “units of the National Gendarmerie arrested an individual supporting terrorist groups in Tebessa (5th Military Region).”

“As part of securing borders and the fight against organized crime, units of the National Gendarmerie seized 25 kilograms of cannabis resin in Oran (2nd Military Region),” according to the source.

In Bordj Badji Mokhtar and In Guezzam (6th Military Region), detachments of the People’s National Army arrested twelve (12) smugglers and seized an all-terrain vehicle, five quintals of foodstuffs, ten generating sets and ten pneumatic drills, according to a communiqué of the National Defence.
