ORAN (Algeria)- Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for a lubricant plant, carried out by the industrial group Total Algerie in Oran (432-km west of Algiers).
The lubricant manufacturing plant, to be built in Chehairia, Bethioua, is meant to meet the needs of the national market (180,000 tonnes a year), to produce 50 percent of current imports.
Once operational, the plant will create more than 50 direct jobs and 150 other indirect jobs.
The project is estimated at DZD4.4 billion.
After top executives of Total Algeria presented the project, Sellal said "we no more seek to export our gas but to process it in Algeria."
"We have the capacity to achieve this goal with our partners, like the French. It is a choice that we have made," the premiere said, stressing that "we must move forward."
Sellal invited the managers of Total Algeria to "shift into high gear."
