Lamamra receives new head of ICRC delegation to Algeria

ALGIERS- Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra has received, Monday in Algiers, Larry Catherine Gendre Le Goff, who presented to him her credentials as the head of the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to Algeria, said the Foreign Ministry in a statement.

Lamamra receives new ambassadors of Djibouti, Slovenia

ALGIERS- Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra on Monday has received the new ambassadors of Djibouti and Slovenia at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Lamamra granted the first audience to Ayeid Mousseid Yahya, who presented to him his credentials as the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Djibouti, with residence in Paris, said the Foreign Ministry in a statement.

The second audience was granted to Renata Cvelbar Bek, who handed to him his credentials as the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Slovenia, with residence in Madrid, added the statement.

 

Messahel holds discussions with Qatari FM

ALGIERS- Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel held discussions, Wednesday in Doha, with Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

The discussions focused mainly on the "recent developments in the political situation in Libya and the urgent need to find a political solution, through an inclusive inter-Libyan dialogue and national reconciliation," said the statement.

The two ministers examined cooperation between Algeria and Qatar and expressed satisfaction at its level.

In this regard, they also discussed the forthcoming session of Algeria-Qatar High Joint Commission, which will be co-chaired by the prime ministers of the two countries in 2017, added the Ministry's statement.

Lamamra receives ambassadors of Lithuania, Rwanda and Tajikistan to Algeria

ALGIERS- Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra has received, Monday in Algiers, the new ambassadors of Lithuania, Rwanda and Tajikistan, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

Lamamra granted an audience to Gediminas Varvuolis, who presented to him his credentials as the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Algeria, with residence in Brussels, Belgium.

The Foreign minister also received Sheikh Saleh Habimana, who handed to him his credentials as the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Rwanda to Algeria, with residence in Cairo, Egypt.

The third audience was granted to Khusrav Noziri, who presented to him his credentials as the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Algeria, with residence in Cairo, said the Ministry's statement.

Ould Khelifa receives two deputies of Iranian Consultative Council

Upper House to install leaders of renewed structures Wednesday

ALGIERS-The Council of the Nation (Upper House of Parliament) will host a plenary session Wednesday to install leaders of the renewed recently structures within parliamentary groups, the Council announced Tuesday in a communiqué.

The session will take place at 9:30 a.m. 

Messahel on working visit to Qatar Thursday

ALGIERS- The minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and the Arab League Abdelkader Messahel will pay, Thursday, a working visit to Qatar, in which he will meet with the Qatari minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

Sellal receives Emmanuel Macron

ALGIERS- Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal received Monday, in Algiers, Emmanuel Macron who is on a visit to Algeria, said a communiqué of the Prime Minister’s Office.

The meeting “allowed broaching the situation of the bilateral relations at the political, economic levels and issues relating to the movement of goods and people,” said the source.

Messahel meets with Emirati minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation

ABU DHABI (U.A.E)- The minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and the Arab League Abdelkader Messahel met Wednesday, in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), with the Emirati minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.

In this meeting held on the sidelines of the works of the 4th Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum, the two parties “hailed the exceptional relations between the two brotherly countries and the ways to deepen them in various fields.”

Bensalah receives UNDP representative

ALGIERS- The Speaker of the Council of the Nation (Upper House of Parliament) Abdelkader Bensalah received Monday, in Algiers, the representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Eric Overvest, said the Upper House in a communiqué.

Overvest gave a presentation on “the main projects and the cooperation programme between Algeria and the UNDP, particularly in the parliamentary field.”

Lower House at meeting of Arab Parliament Bureau in Cairo

CAIRO - The National People's Assembly (APN) will be represented at the 6th meeting of the Arab Parliament Bureau to be held on Monday and Tuesday in Cairo, by member Noureddine Essed, said Sunday a statement from the Lower House of Parliament.

Deputy Noureddine Essed, also chairman of the Arab Commission for Legislative, Legal and Human Rights Affairs, will represent the Algerian Parliament among the Arab Parliament delegation to the works of the 12th session of the Commission on Human Rights dedicated to the first national report submitted by the State of Kuwait.

Ould Khelifa discusses with Arab Parliament's speaker in Cairo

ALGIERS- Speaker of the People's National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa held discussions in Cairo with Speaker of the Arab Parliament Meshal bin Fahm Al Sulami, said Friday a Lower House's statement.

The discussions were held ahead of the 2nd Congress of the Arab Parliament, scheduled for Saturday.

The two sides focused on "the different challenges in the Arab world and ways and means to strengthen peace and security, through greater Arab solidarity without any foreign interference," said the statement.

They also examined means to "enhance cooperation between the Algerian Parliament and the Arab Parliament," concluded the Lower House's statement.

Messahel discusses with Speaker of House of Representatives of Libya Saleh Aguila

ALGIERS- Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel held Saturday, in Algiers, talks with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Libya Saleh Aguila, said a communiqué of Foreign Affairs Minsitry.

“As part of his visit to Algeria, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Libya Saleh Aguila held, today, talks with Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel,” added the communiqué.

 “These talks, which were held in the presence of several Libyan deputies, focused on the assessment of the situation in Libya,” added the source, underlining that “on this occasion, the importance of the inclusive inter-Libyan dialogue which leads to a solution to the crisis and to national reconciliation was emphasized.”

ALGIERS- The Speaker of the People’s National Assembly Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa will take part Saturday, in Cairo, In the works of the annual meeting of the Arab Parliament and of the speakers of the Arab Parliaments and Councils, said Thursday a communiqué of the People’s National Assembly.

Upper House partakes in ASSECAA in Addis Ababa

ALGIERS-A delegation of the Council of the Nation (Upper House of Parliament) will partake on 26-27 November in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) in the consultation meeting of the Association of Senates, Shoora and Equivalent Councils in Africa and Arab World (ASSECAA), announced Thursday the Council in a statement.

The agenda of the meeting held in coordination with the Ethiopia's House of Federation "will focus on climate changes and its impact on security, peace, economic development and human rights in Africa and the Arab world."  

Participants in the ASSECAA meeting will also "discuss terrorism and its consequences on peace and security in the Arab region and African," added the statement.

The Algerian parliamentary delegation is made up of the Vice-President of the Council of the Nation and President of the delegation Abdelkader Zoueirat and several members of the Council.

Parliamentary delegation to take part, in Beirut, at AIPU executive committee

ALGIERS- A delegation of the Council of the Nation will take part on 10-11 February in Beirut (Lebanon) in the works of the 21st executive committee of the Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU) and the 7th meeting of the select commission resulting from this committee.

Upper House takes part Monday in Bayreuth in workshop on "diversity and tolerance" in MENA region

ALGIERS-The Council of the Nation (Lower House) will participate as from Monday in Bayreuth in the Middle East and North African, announced the Lowe House Sunday in a communiqué.

Organized by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy in collaboration with the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union and Lebanon's Parliament, the workshop aims to multiply activities relating to common values, tolerance and peace in the MENA region.

The agenda of workshop that lasts until Wednesday includes several themes relating to challenges and diversity, the role of parliament in the entrenchment of dialogue and tolerance, as well as national and regional policies for the promotion of diversity and dialogue, the same source said. 

Upper House partakes in meeting on Counterterrorism in Mediterranean

ALGIERS – A delegation of the Council of the Nation will partake, on Thursday in Rabat in the meeting of 5+5 dialogue on the fight against terrorism and violent extremism in the Mediterranean, said Wednesday a communiqué of the Upper House of the Parliament.

Organized by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM) in coordination with the Moroccan Parliament, the meeting’s agenda includes several items like "the security approaches for the fight against terrorism and the required reforms to counter violent extremism."

The meeting which will also allow broaching "the role of the educational establishments in the dissemination of the of principles of tolerance and moderation."

The Algerian delegation to the meeting is composed of Tahar Aklil, member of the Council of the Nation, Vice-president of the PA-UfM and Mohamed Zakaria, member of the Council of the Nation and member of the PA-UfM.

Moreover, Azziz Bezzaz, member of the Council of the Nation and the Arab Parliament (AP) will participate in the meeting of the Sub-Committee meeting in charge of the consideration of the financial and administrative systems of the AP, planned on 9 -11 February in Cairo (Egypt).

Parliamentary delegation at OTAN’s parliamentary Assembly

ALGIERS- A delegation of the Parliament’s two chambers (Council of the Nation and the People’s National Assembly) will participate as from Friday in Istanbul (Turkey) in the works of the annual session of teh parliamentary Assembly of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (OTAN).

The participants in this session, which will be held until November 21, will focus on several themes, including “the consequences of the migratory crisis at the economic and security levels” and “Western Balkans: Challenges posed by the European and Euro-Atlantic integration,” said a communiqué of the Council of the Nation.

Other issues will be examined in this annual meeting, notably “OTAN and future role of naval power,” “Security in the Gulf region” and the “improvement of capacities and Euro-Atlantic cooperation in the fight against terrorism.”

ALGIERS- The People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) will participate in the meetings of the Arab Parliament’s Committee of the Legislative, Legal, and Human Rights Affairs scheduled in Cairo (Egypt) said Wednesday, the Assembly in a communiqué.

Major General Hamel on Wednesday in Germany for international meeting on fight against criminality

ALGIERS – General Manager of the National Police Major General Abdelghani Hamel will head Wednesday to Mainz (Germany) to take part in the International meeting on the fight against criminality.

The meeting, which will take place in the presence of a large number of senior police officials and security experts, will address several issues related to security and protection of citizens and property, said a statement from the Directorate General of National Police (DGSN).

It will also discuss the "ways to ensure the security and stability of societies, the fight against terrorism and extremism, organized crime and the strengthening of security cooperation in the light of current regional developments."
