ITF tennis junior tournament “Mehdi Bouras” kicks off with participation of 30 countries

 ALGIERS- ITF tennis junior tournament “Mehdi Bouras” kicked off Sunday at the Tennis Club of Hydra, in Algiers, in the presence of 31 countries, including Algeria.

Algeria is represented by 20 athletes (14 boys and 6 girls) in this tournament, devoted to the memory of late junior international Mehdi Bouras who died in 2013 at the age of 24.

World Sabre Cup: Participation of 17 countries, including Algeria

DAKAR- Seventeen countries, including Algeria, have confirmed their participation in the World Cup of Men’s Sabre (individual and team) which will be held in Dakar on 3-4 November, said Sunday the director of the event’s organizing committee Souleymane Boun Daouda Diop.

In addition to Algeria, the event will see the participation of Argentina, Bulgaria, France, Great Britain, Turkey, the United States of America, Japan, Iran, Korea, Kazakhstan, Italy, Hong Kong, Mali, Botswana, Burkina Faso and Senegal (host country). 

Handball/CAN 2016 (Preparation) : Algeria at Four Nations Tournament in Tunis

TUNIS- The Algerian men’s handball team will take part in the Four Nations Tournament which will be organized by the Tunisian Federation in the first week of November in El Menzah sports complex in Tunis, said on Tuesday the event’s organizers.

In addition to Algeria and Tunisia, the tournament will see the participation of Switzerland and Iran.

This international tournament is part of the preparation of the Algeria team for the African Cup of Nations CAN-2016, scheduled from 21 to 30 June in Cairo.

 

Decathlon: Bourrada at International Decastar Meeting of Talence

ALGIERS- Algerian decathlete Larbi Bourrada, fifth at the Olympic Games of Rio de Janeiro, will take part in the International Decastar Meeting of Talence (France), scheduled on 17-18 September. 

2015 Military World Games : Algeria to compete in six sports

ALGIERS- Algeria will compete in six Olympic sports, including football, at the 6th Military World Games  of the International Military Sports Council , to take place in Mungyeong (South Korea) from 26 September to 12 October, said Monday the People’s National Army (ANP).

In addition to football, the Algerian athletes will be present in boxing, athletics, associated wrestling and taekwondo, said the source.

 

Taekwondo Club Championship: Bourifa Mohamed Amine represents Algeria

AMMAN - Algeria takes part in the 14th edition of the International Taekwondo Club Championship which is being held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, from 29 to 31 July with the participation of 16 countries.

Algeria is represented at the competition in Amman by athlete Bourifa Mohamed Amine (-80kg).

He will compete along with 470 athletes from 41 clubs from Great Britain, Taiwan, Indonesia, Morocco, Nigeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Palestine, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Jordan

International Extreme Sports Festival: 200 competitors from 14 countries from 4 to 6 June

ALGIERS- About 200 athletes practicing extreme sports from 14 countries, including world and Europe champions, will participate in the international festival "Fise DemoStop,” organized from 4 to 6 June at Ridh El Feth Esplanade in Algiers, said the event’s organizers.

In terms of participation, the event will see the participation of 150 athletes from Algeria and 24 others from Tunisia and Morocco, while the other countries will compete with one or two candidates each.

The other partciapting countries are Brazil, Japan, Czech, Russia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, France, the United States of America and Canada.

Algeria Football Cup 2015 (Final) : Sellal grants financial rewards to finalists, military sport

BLIDA- Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal granted, on behalf of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, financial rewards to two finalists of the Cup of Algeria 2015, RC Arba and MO Bejaia, and to the teams of the military final, Saturday at the VIP lounge of Mustapha Tchaker Stadium.  

Cheques totalling DZD50 million were presented to the presidents of RC Arbaa and MO Bejaia.

The two teams which played in the final of the military cup of Algeria benefitted from financial rewards.

The presidents of RC Arbaa and MO Bejaia gave Prime Minister symbolic gifts. 

Football/2016 Olympic Games (preparation): Algeria-Iraq friendly on 13-17 July in Algiers

ALGIERS- The Algerian Olympic football team will play two friendly matches against their Iraqi opponents in July as part for the preparations of the two teams for the tournament of the of Rio 2016 Olympic Games, said Wednesday the Algerian Federation of Football (FAF).

These two friendly matches will take place on 13 and 17 July in Algiers, said the source.

CAN 2017: Tahmi on working visit to Cairo from 6 to 8 April

ALGIERS- Minister of Sport Mohamed Tahmi will pay a working visit to Cairo, Egypt, from 6 to 8 April and will attend part of the works of the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) which will designate on Wednesday the host country of the African Cup of Nations CAN-2017, said Sunday the ministry.

“Tahmi will head for Egypt from 6 to 8 April and attend a session of the CAF’s executive committee to present the latest developments in the file of Algeria’s candidacy to host CAN 2017,” said Ministry of Sport.

African Gymnastics Union to meet in Algiers next week

ALGIERS- African Gymnastics Union will hold a meeting on the sidelines of African Gymnastics Championships (juniors / seniors), to take place in Algiers from 23 to 26 March, said its president, Algerian Sid Ali Zaater.

"This meeting will be an opportunity to present our action plan until 2024, as well as new projects that will be presented at the next meeting of the International Gymnastics Federation in Japan," Zaater told a press conference, held Sunday at July 5th Stadium.

He said that the big nations "get always the lion's share and leave almost nothing to emerging countries," adding that "this should change positively in the future."

To that end, the emerging countries, especially Africans, have won a first victory by making of the African Gymnastic Championships a qualifying tournament to the Olympic Games as from 2020.

Arab Taekwondo Championship: Algeria to compete with 10 athletes

ALGIERS- The Algerian teams of taekwondo (women/men), made up of 10 athletes, will compete in the Arab Nations Championship, to be held in Tunis on 25-26 March, with the participation of 70 athletes from ten countries.

The objective of the Algerian team, which flew Monday to Tunis, is to snatch the maximum number of medals and improve the raking compared with the last edition, President of the Algerian Federation of Taekwondo Abdelhak Taibi told Monday APS.

“We will participate in this competition with 10 athletes, including three women. Our main objective is to improve our ranking compared with the last edition as we won seven medals (1 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze),” said Taibi.

In addition to Algeria and Tunisia, the competition will see the participation of Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Libya, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Yemen.

The Algerian team will also participate in the international tournament “Open of Carthage” which will take place from 27 to 29 March in Tunis. 

13th Mediterranean Handball Championship (U-19, qualifying match): Algeria vs. Tunisia

ALEXANDRIA (Egypt)- The Algerian men’s handball team (U-19) will play Friday in Alexandria against their Tunisian counterparts in a qualifying match of the Mediterranean Handball Championship.

 

19 Algerian athletes at World Cross Country Championships of Guiyang

ALGIERS- Nineteen Algerian athletes (seniors men and women, juniors boys and girls)  will participate in the 41st World Cross Country Championships, to be held in Guiyang in China, said the Algerian Athletics Federation (FAA).

A total of 21 athletes, making up the different cross-country teams, are holding training and pre-election camp in Sidi-Fredj, since Saturday till March 20. 

2016 Arab Cross Country Championship: Algeria to participate with 24 athletes in Hammamet

ALGIERS- Twenty four (24) athletes (men, women) will represent Algeria in the Arab Cross Country Championship (juniors/seniors) which will start on 14 February in Hammamet (Tunisia), the Algerian Athletics Federation (FAA) told APS on Wednesday.

For seniors (men), Algeria will participate with the athletes Mounir Miout, Khoudir Aggoun, Nadir Gouasmia, Issam Zeghdane, Miloud Madoui and Mohamed Zorkane while Nawel  Yahi, Nabila Sifi, Rihane Sennani, Kenza Dahmani, Hedda Souadia and Rima Chenah will represent Algeria for ladies.

For juniors, Algeria will be represented by Souhil Hanssour, Salah Kremia,  Si-Youcef Hassani, Abdelatif Taoui, Mohamed Bouaziza and Toufik Bouziane, as well as Abir Refas, Katia Belabbes, Yasmina Houssaini, Amira Bordji, Wiam Kharoubi and Souhila Zentar.

 

African Junior Athletics Championships: Mohamed Fekkoun wins bronze in 10,000 m walk

ADDIS ABABA- Algeria's Mohamed Fekkoun won the bronze medal in men's 10,000m walk on Saturday, the third day of the African Junior Athletics Championships, taking place from 5 to 8 March in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Algerian athlete clocked 53:05.62, behind the gold winner Egypt's Mahmud Mohamed Mahmud (48:47.90) and the silver winner Ethiopia's Amanual Biratu Gemechu (49:06.89).

It is Algeria's second medal in the African tournament after the bronze won Thursday by Mohamed Amine Triki in men's long jump with 7,39m.

In women's 5000m walk, Bouhraoua Zina finished fourth clocking 28:00.39. The gold medal of the race was claimed by Ethiopia's Beletew Mitiku Yehuleye (24:49.11), while the silver went to Ethiopia's Dejene Negatu Ayalnesh (25:41.52) and the bronze to Tunisia's Nasri Chahinez (27:08.52).

Two other Algerian athletes will compete Saturday, namely Aniya Ainouche (women's heptathlon) and Heithem Sebat (men's triple jump), while three others, namely Amine Bouanani (men's 110 m hurdles), and Mohamed Amine Fodhil and Hichem Bouhanoun (men's high jump), will participate Sunday, the last day of the championships.

 

CAN U23 (preparations): Tunisia-Algeria friendly on November 16 in Chedly Zouiten stadium

TUNIS- The friendly match between the Algerian and Tunisian football teams will be played on November 16 at 3,00 p.m. at Chedly Zouiten stadium in Tunis, said Thursday the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF).

This friendly meeting is part of the preparations of the two teams for the final phase of the African Cup of Nations (Under 23), to be held from 28 November to 12 December in Senegal and qualifying for 2016 Olympic Games.

In anticipation of this friendly match, the Tunisian team will hold a preparatory training camp from 8 to 16 November in Tunis. Tunisian coach Maher Kenzari selected the 25 players.

The Algerian players will start on November 9 a training camp at the technical centre of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) in Sidi Moussa.

 

CAF Super Cup: Hayatou in Algeria to attend ES-Setif-Al-Ahly match

ALGIERS- President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Issa Hayatou arrived Friday afternoon in Algiers to attend ES-Setif-Al-Ahly match of the final of the CAF Super Cup, expected on Saturday (4.00 p.m.) at Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida.

Upon his arrival in Algiers, Hayatou was received by President of the Algerian Football Federation Mohamed Raouraoua.

In the match of the Super Cup of Africa, the winner of the league of champions (ES Setif) plays against the holder of the Cup of Confederation (Al Ahly).

 

 

World Cup 2018 qualifiers (2nd Day): Tanzania vs Algeria in Dar es Salaam Nov. 14

DAR ES SALAM – Algeria will play against Tanzania at Dar es-Salaam National Stadium on Saturday 14 November, the second day of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, said Wednesday the Tanzanian Football Federation.

The second-leg match will take place in Algeria three days later, on 17 November.

Judo Grand Prix Dusseldorf 2015: Algeria to compete with 10 judokas

ALGIERS- Ten judokas, including three women, will represent Algeria in the Grand Prix Dusseldorf 2015, to be held from 20 to 22 February, according to the technical direction of teh AlgerianFederation of Judo (FAJ).

“We will go to Germany with 10 judokas. It is a tournament which enables winning a lot of points in the world ranking. We rely on our athletes in this competition,” said Technical Director Samir Sbaa, on the sidelines of the ordinary general meeting of FAJ.

At the end of the official competition, the Algerian athletes will stay in Germany till February 26.

The Algerian selection, also made up of three junior athletes, will fly Wednesday evening to Dusseldorf.
