Two drug traffickers arrested, nearly 60kg of cannabis seized in Bechar and Tlemcen

ALGIERS-Two (2) drug traffickers were arrested and nearly 60kg of cannabis were seized Sunday in the provinces of Bechar and Tlemcen by a detachment of the People’s National Army (ANP) and units of the National Gendarmerie and Border Guards, the National Defence Ministry announced in a communiqué.

 “As part of the fight against smuggling and organized crime, an Army detachment and units of the National Gendarmerie and Border Guards arrested on 5 March 2017, two (2) drug traffickers and seize two tourist cars and 59.78kg of cannabis in the provinces of Bechar (3rd Military Region) and Tlemcen (2nd Military Region),” said the source.  

Besides, Army detachments intercepted “three individuals in possession of 3 shotguns, a quantity of ammunition and two pairs of binoculars in the provinces of Ghardaia and Biskra (4th Military Region)” while other detachments apprehended in distinct operations conducted in the provinces of El Oued, Biskra, Tamanrasset and In Guezzam “22 smugglers, two trucks, two all-terrain-vehicles (ATVs), 7.7 tonnes of foodstuffs, 24 metal detectors, 5 power generators, 4 jackhammers, 34.5 quintals of tobacco and 17.888 units of various drinks,” stated the source.  

Moreover, “29 illegal immigrants of various African nationalities were arrested in the provinces of Adrar, Biskra and Tlemcen,” concluded the source.
