ORAN- An agreement for the restoration of the Bey Palace and the Pacha Mosque, two sites dating back to the ottoman era was signed Thursday, in Oran (432-km west of Algiers), between the Directorate of Town Planning and Construction, and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).
Turkish group under Algerian law, Tosyali Iron and Steel, proposed to fund the restoration of these two sites with the support of TIKA. The start-up procedures of operations will be launched shortly said the Wali (Governor) of Oran Abdelghani Zaalane who chaired the agreement’s signing ceremony in the presence of the ambassador of Turkey to Algeria Mehmet Poroy.
After a wait of many decades, the restoration of these two sites of the district of El Houari will enter its concrete phase, he said, hailing the initiative of Tosyali Group, who was interested in these two monuments, among the rare Ottoman vestiges of Oran.
Without speaking about the due date of the restoration works, the Wali said that they will certainly be ready to be integrated into Oran’s sightseeing tours, scheduled for the Mediterranean games which will be hosted by the province in 2021.
