ORAN (Algeria)- The Alsat-users workshop scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, at the Dir El Djir Satellite Development Centre, in Eastern Oran, will be an opportunity to evaluate the use of images from Algerian satellites, launched and put in earth orbit in September 2016.

In fact, three Algerian satellites (Alsat-1B, Alsat-2B and Alsat-1N) were successfully put in earth orbit on 26 September by Indian launcher PSLV C35 from Sriharikota site at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in South East India.

The two satellites, Alsat-2B and Alsat-1B entered the operational exploitation phase through the acquisition of high-resolution images (2.5m) and medium resolution (12m).

The Oran meeting will be dedicated to Alsat-1B images, taken at an altitude of 670 kilometers, in multispectral mode (visible and near infrared), and panchromatic.

The use of Alsat-1B images will, among other things, meet the goals relating to the protection of environment and various natural ecosystems, the observations of desertification phenomena and their cartographies, to land use mapping, land and coastal development and the prevention and management of natural risks, said the Algerian Space Agency (ASAL)

As for Alsat-2B, it represents the second high-resolution earth observation satellite, placed in an orbit located at 670-km of altitude and thus, following Alsat-2A, in orbit since July 2010.

The use of Alsat-2B images at 2.5m in panchromatic mode and in enhanced-color mode will make it possible to invest in important thematic and economic areas such as urban and agricultural development of territories and the littoral, cartography and the follow-up of infrastructures and engineering structures, the establishment and update of cadastre and Saharan steppe, and the prevention and management of natural risks (floods, forest fires, etc).

The launch in orbit of these satellites, developed and tested by Algerian engineers at the Oran Satellite development Centre (CDS) is part of the implementation of the National Space Programme by 2020 adopted by the government, said the ASAL.
