Meslem calls to put rural woman at heart of socioeconomic development-related concerns

ALGIERS-Minister of National Solidarity, the Family and Women’s Affairs Mounia Meslem on Sunday called to put rural woman among the concerns related to socioeconomic development.

Speaking at Echaab daily forum, the minister called to highlight the “role of rural woman in socioeconomic development” on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.

An action plan to help rural woman in nine pilot agricultural provinces will be soon extended to all provinces, announced Meslem, who urged active associations to attach interest in women in all provinces, including sub-provinces.

She also announced an action plan for women in southern provinces and the High Plateaus as well as “other fruitful long-term strategies.”

As regard the increase in the pension allocated to the disabled, the minister stressed this issue had been presented to the government, and an action plan had been drawn up in the country’s communes

This category do not only receive a pension from the ministry, but also benefits from social  support, like free equipment and transport, recalled Meslem, stating that the ministry’s program aims to integrate many disabled in the employment market.

As for divorced women with custody of children receiving financial assistance from the National Fund for Child Support, the minister regretted “the very low amount” of pensions granted by the Fund to this category of women.
