ALGIERS-The Council of Ministers, which met on Tuesday under the chairmanship of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, adopted a draft law on the protection of children, a statement from the presidency of the Republic said.
The bill aims at "strengthening the protection of children who benefit from the best interest in any legal or social decision," the same source added.
Also, the bill explained the concept of the child in danger and set his right to judicial protection.
In this regard, the bill provides for the creation of a national body for the promotion and protection of children, as well as the establishment of a national children's day which will be the date of the enactment of the legislation on this issue.
Speaking at the Council of Ministers, President Bouteflika noted that "the initiation and strengthening of the laws protecting women and children reflect our country’s commitment to respect for human dignity, which is center of our spiritual values and amongst the priorities of the contemporary international law."
The Head of State also seized the opportunity to invite the leaders of National education, imams and media to reinforce the education of citizens in terms of family unit preservation, the respect for women and the protection of the child.
