RIO DE JANEIRO (Brazil)- Algerian Abdelhafid Benchebla (81 kg) qualified to the quarter finals of the boxing tournament of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games by defeating Venezuelan Ramirez Albert Ramon (2-0) Thursday at the Rio Centre arena
After missing the first round against his opponent of the day, the reigning African champion found the strength to come back the last two rounds thanks to, notably, his technique but especially his physical freshness.
Twice ranked fifth in his two previous Olympic participations, Benchebla will face, in the quarter finals scheduled Sunday, British Buatsi Joshua who defeated by knockout, Uzbek Rasulov Elshod.
Following this qualification, Algeria has two boxers in the quarter finals.
The boxers are Ablehafid Benchebla (81 kg) and Reda Benbaziz (60kg) who will face Mongolian Otgondalai Dorjnyambuu Friday at 10:00 p.m. (Algerian time).
