ALGIERS- Minister of Youth and Sports Mohamed Tahmi and the president of the International Cycling Union (UCI), British Brian Cookson, agreed Tuesday in Algiers to give a boost to their cooperation, especially on the "technical," level, for the development of the sport in Algeria.
"We have agreed to cooperate on the technical level to get the necessary support in organizing major cycling events in Algeria," said Tahmi, noting that the incidents that occurred during the second stage of the Tour of Algeria were due to lack of experience.
"They were a slight setback resulting from a lack of experience. Cooperation with the UCI will make it possible for us to avoid such inconvenience."
During the meeting, Tahmi also presented a scale model of the velodrome of Mascara (361-km west of Algiers) which, according to him, is meant to be "a breeding ground for young cyclists."
