ALGIERS- Algerian Football Federation (FAF) made official on Tuesday the departure of national coach, George Leekens, and his technical staff in the wake of the elimination of the Fennecs in Africa Cup of Nations 2017, taking place in Gabon.
"One day after national team's elimination in the first round of Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2017), national coach George Leekens has resigned, and in a few minutes, Leekens will make a statement to the official website of the Algerian Football Federation," the FAF said in a statement.
The statement added that after the departure of Leekens, "all his technical staff will be dismissed."
The manager of national teams, Walid Sadi, announced Leekens' resignation, to APS special envoy to Gabon, a few hours after the Fennecs drew with Senegal (2-2) in their third match.
Leekens was appointed national coach in late October 2016, replacing Serbian Milovan Rajevac.
