ANTANANARIVO- Algeria has won three gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals on the first day of the African Judo Championships 2017 played in Madagascar capital Antananarivo.
The gold medals were won by judokas Meriem Moussa (-52 kg) who defeated Mauritius Christianne Legentil, Houd Zourdani - 66 kg by defeating compatriot Wali Ezzine and Nadjib Temmar who got the better of Senegalese Mbagnick N'diaye, in the final of "Open" category, contested Friday in Antananarivo.
Judokas Ratiba Tariket (-57 kg), Wali Ezzine (-66kg) and Mohamed Rebahi (-60kg) won the silver medals for Algeria in this African competition which sees the participation of 188 athletes.
Algerians Djeddi Oussama (-73kg) and Faïza Aissahine (-52 kg) got the bronze medals, while Imène Rezzoug was ousted in the 2nd round of - 48 kg event as she was defeated by Guinea's Taciana Cesar.
Algeria is competing with 18 athletes (9 men / 9 women) in the African Judo Championships organized from 14 to 16 April in Antananarivo.
