ALGIERS- The only candidate to the presidency of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) Kheireddine Zetchi was elected with 64 votes in the General Elective Assembly held Monday, at the Sidi Moussa National Technical Centre behind closed doors.
A total of 103 members voted during this elective Assembly and besides those who voted for the president of Paradou AC (League 2 Mobilis), 35 voted against and four were invalid ballots.
Zetchi succeeds to Mohamed Raouraoua, whose mandate expired and who did not wish to run again to chair the Algerian Football Federation.
ALGIERS- Algerian Football Federation (FAF) made official on Tuesday the departure of national coach, George Leekens, and his technical staff in the wake of the elimination of the Fennecs in Africa Cup of Nations 2017, taking place in Gabon.
"One day after national team's elimination in the first round of Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2017), national coach George Leekens has resigned, and in a few minutes, Leekens will make a statement to the official website of the Algerian Football Federation," the FAF said in a statement.
The statement added that after the departure of Leekens, "all his technical staff will be dismissed."
The manager of national teams, Walid Sadi, announced Leekens' resignation, to APS special envoy to Gabon, a few hours after the Fennecs drew with Senegal (2-2) in their third match.
Leekens was appointed national coach in late October 2016, replacing Serbian Milovan Rajevac.
ALGIERS- Algerian football team U17 defeated its Egyptian, counterpart 2-1 in friendly match on Monday at stadium in Baraki, Algiers.
Algerian goals were scored by Merouane Zerroki (24') and Dehiri Hocine (30'), while Hamada Farouk scored Egypt's only goal in the game (55').
The Algerian squad lost their first match against the same Egyptian team (1-0) on Friday, at the national technical centre of the Algerian Football Federation in Sidi Moussa, Algiers.
The games are part of the two teams' preparation for the U-17 Africa Cupqualifiers.
Algeria's U17 team will play Libya's in the first round of the qualifiers.
ALGIERS- Several Algerian football figures were awarded Monday in Algiers the Medal of the Order of Merit of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) in the ordinary general meeting of this body.
A total of eight figures were honoured on this occasion for their contribution to the development and fame of the national football.
The honoured figures are Mohamed Dehamchi, head of Constantine’s regional league, Said Guidouche, member of the disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League (LFP), Merzoug Hamena, former member of the FAF’s federal office, honoured posthumously, Youcef El Kenz, former assistant coach of the national team, Mohamed Bichari and Mokhtar Amalou, former international referees.
Two journalists were also honoured on this occasion, namely Said Selhani, former journalist at APS and Messaoud Kadri, former director of the sports weekly newspaper El Mountakheb.
The medal awarding ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of Youth and Sports El Hadi Ould Ali and President of the Algerian Olympic Committee (COA) Mustapha Berraf.
ALGIERS- Algerian Football Federation (FAF) on Thursday awarded the Order of National Football Merit to former national team's captain, Madjid Bougherra, for his efforts within the Desert Foxes throughout his long and rich carrier.
The Order of Merit was handed over to the football player's brother, at a ceremony held before the beginning of the ordinary meeting of FAF general assembly, by the president of the body governing g football in Algeria, Mohamed Raouraoua, the chairman of the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee, Mustapha Berraf, and Major General Megueded Benziane, head of the Sports Department at the People's National Army.
Madjid Bougherra has gone into international retirement just after the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN-2015), which took place in Equatorial Guinea (January 17 - February 8).
ES Setif football club also received the Order of National Football Merit, from the Algerian Football Federation, for its crowning African League Champion and winning of the CAF Super Cup 2015.
The award was handed over to the club's chairman, Hacene Hamar.
The coach of ES Setif, Kheireddine Madoui, who won with his team two African titles, also received the Order of National Football Merit.
In addition, Major General Megueded Benziane, head of the Sports Department at the People's National Army, has been honoured by the FAF, at the ceremony, for his support to national football, and especially the national team.
MONGOMO (Equatorial Guinea)- The Algerian football team is getting ready to make its great debut in the African Cup of Nations 2015 which is taking place in Equatorial Guinea, with South Africa as first opponent Monday at the Mongomo stadium (8:00 p.m. local time), group C’s host city in which also play Ghana and Senegal.
An important but non decisive game which is a test for the Desert Foxes who are more than ever determined to spawn a way leading to at least the semi finals of this competition, a goal assigned by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) to coach Christian Gourcuff.
Sofiane Feghouli’s teammates who played a reassuring preparation game against Tunisia (1-1) will enter the field to win.
“My philosophy is the same: impose our game to our opponents in all the matches in which we are engaged. It is with this spirit that we will play this CAN in which my goal is to win all the games,” said the national coach in a press briefing held in Algiers.
ALGIERS- The friendly match between Algeria and Armenia is to be played May 31st in Sion (Switzerland), the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) announced Monday.
The FAF did not elaborate on the reasons behind the change of the venue for this game, which is part of Desert Foxes’ preparations for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Before playing the friendly game, the Algerian team will complete a training camp in Algiers in May.
The FAF, who held a meeting Sunday, confirmed it has taken special measures for a better preparation ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
According to the source, the preparation for the world major sporting event is being held under Coach Vahid Halilhodzic.
At the 2014 WC, Algeria will compete in group H along with Belgium, Russia and South Korea. Desert Foxes’ first match will be against Belgium on June 17, before playing South Korea on June 22, in Porto Alegre, and Russia on June 26 in Curitiba.
