BRUXELLES (Belgium)- The decision of Israeli occupation authorities to build 2,500 housing units in the West Bank and 566 others in East-al Quds (East Jerusalem), in the occupied Palestinian territories, puts seriously in danger the two-state solution, the office of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said Tuesday.
Israel's settlement building policy may "seriously undermine the two-state solution," Mogherini's office said in a statement, in response to Tel Aviv's approval of a settlement project for the building of 2,500 housing units in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Israeli occupation authorities announced Tuesday their decision to build the housing units in occupied West Bank.
The day before, Israel gave the green light for the building of 566 housing units in East Jerusalem, a Palestinian territory occupied and annexed by Israel.
The European Union expressed regrets for the ongoing expansion of Israeli settlements in spite of international community's warnings, stressing that the settlement building policy "is illegal from the viewpoint of the international law."
