Western Sahara, "non self governing territory," reaffirms Mogherini  

BRUSSELS – Western Sahara is a "non self governing territory," reaffirmed Monday the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, underlining that the final status of this territory is under a UN-supervised "negotiation process."

The EU foreign policy chief’s statement came as written answer to a member of the European Parliament Maria Lidia Senra Rodriguez, without prejudging the results of the negotiation process.

Federica Mogherini has in this regard, reiterated the “support” of the European Union to the UN efforts to reaching a "just, lasting and mutually acceptable politically political solution which guarantees the self-determination of Western Sahara people, under the principles and the objectives of UN Charter ."

Mogherini was answering the Euro-deputy on the measures the European Commission plans to take to make sure that the Sahrawi people is sovereign over its natural resources, currently exploited by Morocco.

She reaffirmed the EU position regarding Western Sahara conflict in the moment when the two parties are engaged in talks on trade agreements so to comply with the ruling of the European Court of Justice (ECJ).
