For Palestinians, Washington can no longer be peace mediator

RAMALLAH- The United States could no longer play their historic role of peace mediator with the Israelis after President Donald Trump's recognition of the Occupied Al-Quds as the capital of Israel, said Wednesday President Mahmoud Abbas.

"Following these deplorable decisions, the United States has deliberately undermined peace efforts and declare that they give up the role of peace process sponsor, which it has played over the past decades," said Abbas on the Palestinian television.

According to him, Trump's announcement "will not change the situation of the occupied city of Al Quds, the eternal capital of the State of Palestine."

The Palestinian leaders consider East Al Quds, occupied and then annexed by Israel in 1967, as the capital of the State for which they aspire.

The international community has never recognized the Occupied Al Quds as the capital of Israel and consider East Al Quds as an occupied territory.

For Israel, all the city of Al Quds, both the western and eastern part, is "its eternal and indivisible capital."
